Our goal was to start the Y+ Summit and finish it with the same energy and thankfully to many supporting hands, we managed to do exactly that. Seeing Nile Hall at Hotel Africana transforming into a bevy of activity with 400 heads moving around, sharing information, laughing, listening and learning filled us with that sense of satisfaction a child gets from eating momma’s food. Thanks again to that support, what a way we signed out! Meaningful panel discussions, the who is who in the reproductive health and HIV space sparing time off their busy schedule to come through for young people and such transformative participation by the audience, we were proud to bow out like that, knowing that impact had been made.

Young people, being the idealistic busy bodies are generally not easy to mobilise

Young people, being the idealistic busy bodies are generally not easy to mobilise, atleast not for more than a day. Their young minds are always thinking of the next move, with their bodies ready to act on something new each time. To see that we had them for 4 days giving their all to contribute, share and learn meant that the partnering health centres and organisations did a good job to get us resourceful attendants and to ensure that they were well taken care of. A round of applause!

Then we had the speakers who were absolute goals. The Minister of Health Dr Jane Ruth Acheng, Dutch Ambassador to Uganda Henk Jan Bakker, the Uganda AIDS Commission Director General Dr Nelson Musoba, Country Director for UNAIDS (Dr Karusa Kiragu) and Centre for Disease Control (Dr Lisa Nelson) all attended the summit in person and delivered remarks to make a memory to the young people. We also had the officials from different ministries, UN organisations, civil society and the corporate community, the latter important in telling young people about fortifying a genuine hustle for economic empowerment. For your remarks and leads in the sessions, y’all rocked!

Oh, there was you too who was following online. The digital space has made sure that the world today is a global village so we had people like you attending the summit from your homes, offices and on the road from whichever corner of this spherical world. We hope you got your internet’s worth, because we surely did from our interaction with you. You define cool!

To all partners, coalitions, service providers and all who made the activity possible in your own suave style, we can’t thank you enough

To all partners, coalitions, service providers and all who made the activity possible in your own suave style, we can’t thank you enough. We are just really proud to know that whatever contribution you made pushed us a couple of steps forward in achieving the new 95-95-95 targets by 2030.
We can’t help feeling the nostalgia that it has all come to an end. A big round of applause to you and your peoples for making this happen. Like Lillian Mworeko of ICWEA said, let’s step out there and disrupt the status quo.
